👍 Why startups should consider building in public

🧠  What is the best way to capture your ideas, thoughts and tasks

🎙  Founders Lane Episode 1 is ready

Building in public

This jargon exactly means what it says - Building in public

Startups can choose to build their products or services in public and allow the community to see what's happening behind the curtains from the very start. At MyGigsters, we employed the same method to build a platform for gig workers backed by the community.

This process brings greater transparency and authenticity to our community and allows us to share our vision, value and purpose as a team. In addition to this, we also get instant and high-quality access to feedback and validation that amplifies community-driven product development.

Earlier this week, I was talking to a B2C startup about this. I strongly recommended the company look at building the community and showcasing the journey of the startup and its mission to the audience directly.

Wouldn't my competitor learn about us, our product and potentially our secret sauce? - asked the founder

Answer: Yes, the opportunity here is more than the potential risk

Building your product or service in public allows you to create this fantastic relationship with your community and acquire early adopters and champions.

How to get your first 100 users
This post will lay out the steps I took at MyGigsters to attract our first 100 early users in less than four weeks.

Your biggest competitive advantage will be your 'Community' and 'Brand value'.

Quote I'm pondering about

Last week was the most prominent week for me. I received something that I had been waiting for the seven years. I will update you all about it soon.

But I came across this poem from Invictus from William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods maybe
     For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
